Temperature sensors are suitable for many industry applications, for many applications will use supplementary wires, why should thermocouples use compensation wires?

The reference end temperature is required to be constant during thermocouple temperature measurement. Because the working end of the thermocouple is close to the reference end, heat conduction and radiation will affect the temperature of the reference end. In addition, the reference end temperature is also affected by the surrounding equipment, pipes, and ambient temperature, which is very irregular, so the reference end temperature is difficult to maintain a constant.

This hopes to make the thermocouple very long, so that the reference end is far away from the working end and into the constant temperature environment, but to do so will consume a lot of valuable electrode materials, it is not economical.

Therefore, a special wire is used to extend the reference end of the thermocouple to solve the problem of constant temperature at the reference end. This wire is the compensation wire.

The compensation wire is usually made of two metal materials that are much cheaper than the two thermal electrode materials, and its thermoelectric properties in the range of 0~100 ° C are almost exactly the same as the thermoelectric properties of the thermocouple to be compensated, so the use of the compensation wire is like extending the thermocouple, so that the reference end of the thermocouple extends to a place far from the heat source, the temperature is more constant and lower.

The compensation wire is an accessory for thermocouple temperature measurement. When using the compensation wire, it must be noted that the two contacts of the thermocouple and the compensation wire should be kept at the same temperature, and the compensation wire should be used with the thermocouple, and the compensation wire with different index numbers should be selected and cannot be confused.

The insulation layer and protective layer of compensation wire are divided into ordinary, heat resistant and shielding three kinds. The two layers of common use are polyvinyl chloride; The insulation layer for heat resistance is polytetrafluoroethylene, and the protective layer is glass wire; The shielding layer is the conductor covered with galvanized steel wire or tinned copper wire.
